Event description

About the course

Demonstrating your organisation’s social impact is one of the most powerful ways to attract paying customers, donors or funders. And yet, it is the one thing that leaders of social change organisations say they struggle with the most. They often know it’s importance in theory, but don’t know how to measure impact and leverage it in practice.

Very few organisations use their social impact effectively as a tool to attract their target audience, or as a key part of their business strategy.

This course will take you ahead of the curve. Delving deep into your organisation’s purpose, you’ll learn all the tools you need to:

  • Understand what social impact is unique to your organisation
  • How to measure it in a way that is useful to you and your team
  • How to share your impact story with others in a way that will bring in income (£££'s)

But the course will also help:

  • Programme your mind for success
  • Shatter glass ceilings and help you experience freedom from self-limiting beliefs
  • Understand how you may have been blocking money from coming your way
  • Plan your time like a pro so you never feel overwhelmed again!

Who is this course for?

This course is for leaders of, and those working in, social enterprises, charities and voluntary organisations, who are delivering social or environmental impact through their activities, but are struggling to secure sustainable income.

If you're not sure how to measure your social impact or use it to leverage customers and income then this is the course for you. You'll discover ways to communicate your impact in compelling ways that attracts your target audience.

Employees, volunteers and those with an idea for a social impact venture are welcome to attend.

Course outcomes

  • Reconnect with who you really are - your vision, your values and purpose – and embed this at the heart of your organisation
  • Get crystal clear on what impact you want to achieve over the next 90 days, and learn skills, models and tools to make this a reality
  • Identify your target audience – the specific people you want to attract to your business (as customers, donors or funders)
  • Learn strategies for attracting your target audience in a way that makes them want to invest in your business
  • Determine what your social impact is and learn new tools for measuring it
  • Discover why your impact story will attract paying customers
  • Tell your story in a compelling way that makes you stand out from the crowd
  • Plan where and how to communicate to attract your target audience
  • Find digital tools that work for you and overcome your fears of technology

Course approach

This course is for go-getters and action takers; active participation is strongly encouraged!

There will be no ‘sitting at the back of the room just listening in’. This is an active course where you need to come prepared to delve deep, to discuss your organisations core purpose and actively participate in the group activities. You might be in a rut at the moment, but you need to be willing to try something new so you can create the change you dream of.

Having said that, Kat is an experienced facilitator, committed to equality of opportunity, and understands that people come with different needs and abilities. We all have different levels of energy throughout the day, with this in mind the training will be flexible to the needs of the group.

There will be space for quiet reflection, timeout and freedom to just come as you are!

During this five-hour course (including breaks) we’ll cover nine hot topics in a way that applies them directly to you and your organisation, so you go away with relevant learning and actions you can actually implement.

  1. WHY THIS APPROACH WORKS: Why using your impact story attracts customers, donors and sponsors (and why it should be the number one thing you focus on in your business today)
  2. DIGITAL MARKETING TRENDS: Trends in digital marketing and how this helps you communicate your story to a wider, or new audience
  3. YOUR IMPACT STORY: Who you are and what your social impact is – crafting your unique impact story
  4. ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS: Setting your 90-day goal (for communicating your impact; attracting new customers; or securing new income) and discover an approach to achieve your goals every quarter
  5. YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE: Determine exactly who your target audience is so you can attract them directly
  6. MEASURING YOUR IMPACT: Different approaches for measuring your impact in a way that makes sense to you, your team and your target audience
  7. DISCOVER NEW TOOLS: How to use different platforms and tools to communicate your story and build your tribe (website, blog, video, articles, presentations/pitches, events, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram)
  8. SHARING YOUR STORY: How to package your story and where to ‘display’ it
  9. PLANNING FOR SUCCESS: Creating a plan for your communications to take away and implement

My style of learning is sharing experiences and ideas with others on the workshop. Kat gave us plenty of opportunities to 'talk things over' with the group, which absolutely met my needs. Her approach was interactive and relaxed, allowing me to engage with her and other delegates while exploring the content of the course. The resources were plentiful and reader friendly. The handouts were great for prompting me when asked to write examples and answers to specific questions. I think the course adds great value, equipping people with the knowledge and skills to run a successful social enterprise. After attending the course and realising the value I would pay more - It has to be worth at least £300! It's all about the knowledge and the know how...Kat shared so much knowledge and support, it was priceless!” Attendee at Training in North Wales in January 2018

It definitely suited my approach to learning. There were lots of opportunities to self-reflect and then discuss with others. The resources were very easy to use and it will be really useful for future business planning. The course really helped me re-define our focus, why and what is most important. This course is worth so much more than I paid. Having now been on the course if you charged £400 I can see how we would easily recover this fee within a few months from applying what we learnt.” Jo Clay, Director @ Empower – Be the change (http://www.empower-bethechange.org/), who attended the training in North Wales in January 2018

The combination of mentoring and coaching was great for me, and the delivery with a mixture of visual aids, group and individual exercises and simply talking things through as a group really helped me. The Workbook was great - just enough to be really useful but not overwhelming or time wasting. I will be using the templates in the future for sure! It was helpful for me to understand that I need to pitch to several different stakeholders in very different ways rather than my usual approach of 'one size fits all' and trying to force people to buy in to it! I also found it useful to break down what exactly needed to be achieved first, who I would need to connect with to do this, and how they would like to be approached. I really found all of it incredibly valuable! More content was covered than I was expecting in just one day. I feel that the value-added to an organisation like mine is great, people won’t realise how much they need it until they have been on it! But the content is definitely worth every penny spent.” Jane Bellis, Founder at Art & Soul Tribe (www.artandsoultribeuk.com/)

I had a real light bulb moment! The realisation that I don't describe the why of what I do, just the what and how. I found the practical tasks of working through the example of one stakeholder extremely useful. The course was very clear, and there was lots of interaction and variety” Attendee at the training in North Wales in January 2018

"I loved working with Kat! I gained so much value and confidence. I had a real breakthrough in working out my vision for my business. Kat listened to me and helped me work towards some real and achievable targets.” Rupy Kaur, Founder & Director of You Own It

"Kat has been incredibly supportive … She provided me with valuable information to help me in the development of my organisation, as well as brilliant advice for my crowdfunding campaign. Kat has provided me with a clearer [perspective] on certain things and shown great knowledge in the area of social enterprises. It also helps that she’s encouraging, kind and easy to approach". Shaniqua Begum, Founder & Director of Young People Insight

“What I love so much about working with Kat is she is 100% committed to making your social enterprise a success and will go above the call of duty to support you in your quest to create greater social impact. Kat’s follow through is impeccable, her excitement about her work is obvious, and her passion towards helping others to make a larger difference through their work, is palpable". Julia Lynch, Founder & Director of Global Girl Project

“I have had the pleasure of working with Kat over many years, and have learned so much from her practical and thoughtful approaches to challenging issues. She brings her years of insight into the voluntary, student politics and social enterprise sectors to her consulting work, along with her deep expertise in facilitation and programme design. If you have the chance to train with Kat - just do it! You’ll be so grateful that you did.’ Debbie Danon, Co-CEO, TrustLab Ltd.
