Event description

Description

A provocative title maybe but the Apprenticeship Levy has significantly disrupted the learning and development strategy in a large number of organisations. If it hasn't in yours yet, then why not?

The UK has a critical skills shortage and subsequent productivity problem. The Apprenticeship Levy has been introduced as one way to overcome this long term skills crisis. However, anecdotal evidence so far would suggest that this is not entirley the case, and it may actually be counter productive. This event is intended to be an open discussion where we can establish reality and suggest alternatives if they are required.

A Government Commons education and business select committee, the British Chambers of Commerce and the Institute for Fiscal Studies have all expressed various concerns about the Levy. So, since the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy, can we determine amongst others;

  • Have organisations cut back on essential short term training?
  • Have organisations cut back on future focused training?
  • Have providers experienced reductions in participant numbers and delivery expertise?
  • Is the focus now on utilising the levy rather than overcoming critical skill shortages, particularly in leadership and management?
  • Has the focus shifted away from recruiting younger staff to training existing older employees?
  • Are apprenticeships the right solution to resolve the re-training needs of the over 40’s?
  • Should the levy support more focussed, shorter, accredited courses with less extensive time commitment and assessment?

Formore information or to submit your views outside the meeting, please contact the organiser David Broadhead: david@partnersinmanagement.co.uk

There is a nominal charge to cover refreshments and ensure commitment as places are limited. Any surplus income will be donated to charity afterwards.
