Overview

AoP and NKBL are coming together for this session on information and best practice to deal with increasing hate and conflict in communities.

Action on Prejudice and No Knives Better Lives are teaming up to host a Community of Practice session looking at Hate, Division and Extremism, led by trainers from Connect Futures.

The session engages participants with need-to-know information, up-to-date themes and best practices related to on-going and increaing hate and conflict in communities. It increases knowledge of emerging trends and threats from the extreme far right, far right proscribed groups, propaganda and manifestations of hate both on and offline. It up-skills practitioners to challenge harmful narratives.

Session Outcomes

  • Participants understand concepts such as 'extremism', 'The Far Right', 'Islamophobia' and 'Antisemitism', and how these issues manifest on and offline for young people.
  • Participants recognise symbols, language and tools for the spreading of hate, commonly used by community agitators.
  • Participants have a greater understanding of online and gaming spaces and how Far Right groups use these spaces.
  • Participants are aware of risk indicators and response options for addressing extremism, eg safe discussions and critical thinking.
  • Participants have the ability and resources to share information learned and embed this new learning into youth work practice.

Connect Futures have worked with over 300,000 young people, communities and practitioners to challenge hate, violence and prejudice. Their team consistions of professionals, researchers and youth workers with over 50 years of experience.
