Event description

Description

Do you wonder how to best support young refugees? And, would like the opportunity to reflect on the Christian imperative to welcome them? Then this training is for you.

The Children’s Society, Mothers’ Union, Home for Good and The Diocese of Lichfield are teaming up to deliver free awareness-raising training about young refugees in the Diocese.

As Christians, we have a responsibility to ensure that our communities are places where inclusivity is practised, respect is paramount and welcome extended without compromise. The Hebrew phrase hat·tê·ḇāh is used in two contexts in the Old Testament, once to describe Noah’s ark, and once for the basket used by Miriam to keep Moses safe in the River Nile. Our vision is for our communities to be places of safety, places of hat·tê·ḇāh, for refugee and migrant children.

The training is aimed people who may come across refugees in their work or who might be influencers of others. This will include both church professionals, e.g. clergy, family or youth workers, chaplains and pastoral assistants, and professionals within church communities, e.g. teachers, lawyers and medical professionals.

The training will also be a great opportunity for those who may not have contact with young refugees but would like to increase their awareness.

The content will highlight issues facing young refugees in this country. Whilst the content will focus directly on the experience of young refugees, much of the information will be relevant to vulnerable adults too:

- The Christian imperative to support young refugees

- What is a refugee?

- A young refugee’s journey and the asylum process

- Rights and entitlements

- Health and well-being good practice

- Organisations to contact for advice and support.

Do register your interest and we will contact you shortly afterwards to let you know whether you have a place.
