Event description

Description

On the 14th February, Sunderland People First and partners including NHS England and Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust will be hosting a Conference called ‘Have a Heart for STOMP’.

STOMP is a health campaign to stop over medication of people with a learning disability, autism or both.

The aims of STOMP are to:

  • Improve quality of life for a person with a learning disability and/or autism
  • Think about other ways of supporting people that don’t involve taking medication
  • Encourage people to have regular check-ups about their medicines
  • Make sure people get the right information about medicines they take and why
  • Make sure doctors and other health professionals involve people, families and support staff in decisions about medicines
  • Raise awareness of how to stay healthy and well
  • Here is a link to an easy read guide about the campaign: https://bit.ly/2OhUElD

Our event is aimed at people with learning disabilities and or autism and will include lots of activities and opportunities for people to talk about medication, behaviour and different ways that people can get the right support. People with a learning disability and autism will facilitate the event and share their own experiences as part of the day. We would like people that attend to help us develop an action plan for individuals and organisations.
