Event description
Calling all writers and readers!

About this event

Come along to this special free event celebrating the launch of the City of Stories Home Anthology featuring talented new writers from across London, alongside published authors.

Take part in a relaxed creative writing workshop - aimed at those who would like to give writing a go or those who are already writers, hear local authors read their stories and pick up your own free copy of the Anthology. You can sign up to attend the creative writing workshop, the reading or both!

There’ll also be information on how your library can support you as a reader and writer, writing tips from the City of Stories Home commissioned writers and a City of Stories Home short story reading list curated by librarians to help you find your next read.

The celebration event will start off with a 45 minute creative writing taster session. There will then be a 15 minute break with the reading starting at 19:00.

You can find more information about City of Stories Home here: https://www.spreadtheword.org.uk/projects/cityofstorieshome/

BSL interpretation

This workshop is BSL interpreted by Paul Michaels and TBC. BSL interpreters will leave the workshop and the reading after 30 minutes if they are not required. If you require BSL interpretation to take part and you know you are going to be more than 30 minutes late in advance, please email us with at least 24 hours’ notice at hello@spreadtheword.org.uk  so we can let our interpreters know.

About Amita Murray

I’m a writer, based in London. The first of my Arya Winters series of quirky mystery novels – Arya Winters and the Tiramisu of Death – came out with Polis Books in October 2021 and is under a TV option shopping agreement with Renegade Pictures, a Warner Brothers company based in London. A starred review by Publishers Weekly says that the novel is ‘full of original metaphors and pithily funny descriptions’, and it ‘turns the cosy genre on its head.’ My previous novel The Trouble with Rose came out with HarperCollins in 2019. My collection Marmite and Mango Chutney won the SI Leeds Literary Prize in 2016 and it was part-written under a Leverhulme grant based at University College London. I’ve been a Literature Works writer-in-residence at Plymouth University, and taught creative writing at the University of East Anglia and the New College of the Humanities. My stories have been published in Wasafiri, Sand Berlin, Brand, Aesthetica and others.

What are your COVID-19 protocols for the City of Stories Home celebration events?

As the COVID-19 situation stands, we anticipate the City of Stories Home in-person events to go ahead as planned. Following the Government’s decision to end the majority of Covid measures, our policy will remain in line with our library partners. We want everyone to be able to attend the City of Stories Home celebration events comfortably and confidently so, while no longer a requirement, we continue to encourage:

- anyone displaying Covid-like symptoms not to attend, and

- all attendees aged 16 and over to wear masks, except those that are exempt.
