International Women’s Day 2018

#PressforProgress

With the recent Hollywood film industry scandal and World Economic Forum's 2017 Global Gender Gap Report findings telling us that gender parity is over 200 years away - there has never been a more important time to keep motivated and #PressforProgress.

And while we know that gender parity won't happen overnight, the good news is that across the world women are making positive gains day by day.  Plus, there's indeed a very strong and growing global movement of advocacy, activism and support.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Havering Women in Business is supporting International Women's Day 2018 by hosting an evening of powerful, inspirational business women who will share their stories.

Keynote Speaker

Emma Jones MBE – Founder, Enterprise Nation

“There are millions of women starting their own business. This is the world I see every day; women spotting gaps in the market or taking their passion/hobbies and turning it into a way of making a living. Enterprise Nation attract circa a 60 per cent female audience i.e. thousands of women starting amazing businesses. They don’t need any help in promoting women in business – they’re doing it themselves!”

Emma Jones and her team at Enterprise Nation provide the UK’s most active small business network with over 75,000 members. Emma started her first business when she was 27, and after 15 months the company was successfully sold to Tenon Plc. It was this experience of starting, growing and selling a business from a home base that gave Emma the idea for Enterprise Nation, which was launched in 2006. Enterprise Nation also presents a campaigning voice to government and the media on behalf of its members.

In March 2011 Emma was one of 8 co-founders to launch StartUp Britain, the national campaign to encourage more people to start a business and support existing businesses to grow.

Host Speakers

Sarah Walters – Managing Director, Made Public CIC

“I drive a hard bargain, lead with the ferocity of a lion, all whilst smiling sweetly; three attributes which led to me winning Havering Business Person of the Year 2015. I am passionate about supporting and encouraging women to take charge in business – it’s not enough to talk about gender equality, we need to take collective action and shared responsibility to tackle inequality and discrimination.”

Sarah has an unrivalled knowledge in site regeneration, having paved the way for the creative rebirth of Romford through projects such as The Retailery and Colour in Romford. Her forward thinking approach has already made her a specialist in shopping centre regeneration, which can be seen in the success of the Pie Eyed Festival that took place at The Brewery, Romford and the bestowing of the ‘Innovation Award’, received in 2016 for her work at The Quadrant.

Denise Mortimer – Founder, The Fabulous Finder

“We can all choose to be victims or victors in life. You are so much more than you think you are. I know it and I haven’t met you. Shine your light in the direction it’s meant to and create the most fabulous version of you ever.”

Denise is originally from Long Island, New York and moved to London in 1985. She is captivated by people, places and things. She finds it a criminal act for people to not recognise how fabulous they are and, as the ‘Fabulous Finder’, Denise makes it her business to help others see the fabulousness they possess.
