About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

Join REConnect and the National Trust for an organised litter pick in the wild, rocky cove of Hayburn Wyke - simply book online and turn up at the meeting time.

The beach clean is free to attend but please note that Hayburn Wyke is accessed by a short, steep path through the woodland so does require a good level of fitness and sturdy footwear.

Please dress appropriately for the weather, remembering that it can be chilly on a breezy beach. We provide litter pickers, gloves and bags for you to use.

Please note, children must be supervised by an adult throughout the event.

This litterpick is part of the Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Sweep and will include a litter survey to be submitted to the MSC as part of the citizen science programme.

Facilities

There are no facilities at this beach, the nearest public toilets are a 10 minute drive away at Ravenscar.

Travel and meeting point

Parking is in the field beside the Hayburn Wyke Inn, this is normally pay and display but free parking permits will be provided for the duration of the event.

This is a joint event between the National Trust and Groundwork NE & Cumbria as part of the REConnect Project

River Esk Connect (REConnect) is a community engagement project funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, based around the River Esk and its coastal streams.

Starting in September 2024 and running for five years, this project’s goal is to ‘REConnect’ people to the beauty of the Esk and its surrounding landscape. We aim to help people create a deeper bond with nature and understand more the impact of climate change on the area, inspiring them to take action to make a difference.

Working together, the North York Moors National Park Authority, Groundwork NE & Cumbria, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and Yorkshire Marine Nature Partnership will deliver educational programmes, volunteering opportunities, and sustainable tourism initiatives.

Whitby, Scarborough & Ryedale DAG will play a crucial role in ensuring that the project’s events and activities are as accessible as possible, enabling a diverse range of people to get involved. York St. John University will act as the internal evaluators, ensuring the project evolves over its five-year duration based on ongoing community feedback and input.
