Event Details

Three Monkeys is a monthly event where Steve Lowis and The Art House introduce three of the best acoustic musical talent around. The format is 'in the round' with all three performers on stage together, taking it in turns, one song at a time.

At Christmas we like to find a band that are a trio but who also play their own solo material, so this month we have:

Hayley McDonnell | Olly Lewis | Rob Kitney
(AKA Tenderlore!)

Together they form an Alternative Folk trio rich in harmony and lyrical intent. They met whilst at university in Southampton as fellow singer/songwriters. Inspired by each other’s music they began to collaborate on each other’s songs and make their mark on the local music scene.

Since their debut album launch in May 2015, the trio have continued to gig widely across the South. Recent gigs have seen Tenderlore supporting raucous folk rockers Mad Dog McCrea, 60s pop legends The Move, and acclaimed folk guitarist and singer Martin Simpson. Inspired by the likes of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Simon & Garfunkel, Fleet Foxes and Laura Marling, Tenderlore’s sound is the amalgamation of three individual musical identities blending as one.

Tickets are, £5 (early bird), £6.50, or £8 on the day. Advance ticket money for these events goes to the artists. On the day money goes to The Art House.

Sit back, relax, enjoy. The sound is first class, there's a varied selection of craft ales, lagers and ciders in the bar downstairs, and a friendly audience who are there to enjoy the music, primarily. Always expect the unexpected and be prepared to find a makeshift instrument if the occasion arises.

Our Director Paul Bickmore (better known as Bik) spends a lot of his time tracking down a varied, interesting range of performances for us to host here at The Art House.

A seasoned musician himself (as well as being the man who does the sound engineering on the night - something he does extremely well), Bik hand selects the very best acts to showcase in our gallery space - his criteria?

They have to make him feel like this - and they will have the same effect on you, we promise.

Travel information:-

We are a city centre venue and parking can be in short supply.  If you are driving, please make sure you leave plenty of time to find a space click here for a map of where the nearest parking spaces can be found.

We recommend Kings Park Road car park:
We are about 10 minutes walk from Southampton City Centre train station (head up the hill toward the Guildhall clock tower) and on the route for most city centre buses (the Unilink U1 stops virtually outside.)

 Accessibility info:-

Events are generally suitable for adults, young people and older children - children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, however. Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems and songs may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!)

Most events are held on our first floor, accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner. Comformatable seating is provided.  We regret that, due to space and other constraints, we are generally unable to relocate our events to the ground floor for those who require ground level access - so sorry.
