About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Please join us on the beach by the council car park along from the Ferryboat Pub, Hayling Island, on Tuesday 27 May from 14:00 - 16:00 for a public beach clean. Every bit of litter and rubbish we pick up makes a difference.

The Final Straw Foundation will provide gloves, litter pickers, bags and buckets, but if you have any of your own of these that you would like to use please bring them.

If you would like to make a donation to the charity, you can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/finalstrawfdn

Our community beach cleans are open to individuals and small groups. If you're a business or corporate group looking to join, for your volunteering hours or team-building, we’ll need to arrange a bespoke private clean for you. These private cleans support our charity through a donation, ensuring we can continue our important work. Get in touch via hello@finalstrawfoundation.org to book your tailored experience.

BEACH CLEAN RULES

- There will be a safety briefing at the start of the event, please listen carefully and adhere to the guidelines.

- Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

- Only go where instructed to go on the day.

- Dress for the weather. If it's hot, wear sun cream, if it's raining bring a rain jacket and so on - layers are great.

- Please bring your own drink in a reusable container.

- Do not pick up anything sharp (broken glass, needles etc). Inform a host and we will remove it. We will have a sharps bin with us.

- Under 18's must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult, FSF accepts no responsibility for any minors attending the event.

- Participation is at the individual's own risk, but please report any incidents to the hosts.

- Do not put your hands anywhere near your face, especially eyes or mouth during the clean. You never know what you may have touched and your gloves will probably be dirty.

- Bring hand sanitiser for after the clean-up and wash your hands thoroughly as soon as possible after the event.

- Return all equipment and litter to the collection/drop-off spot.

- Well-behaved dogs on leads are more than welcome, but please keep them with you, under control and be aware of others with your dogs even if they are friendly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to pay for parking?

Unfortunately you will need to pay for parking in the council car park - please make sure you use a machine to pay for your car if you have driven there, or use the RingGo App.

Can I bring my dog?

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but please keep them well under control and away from other volunteers unless they approach you or your dog. Some children and adults may be scared of dogs so it's important to make sure they are under full control.

Can I bring my own litter picker and kit?

Absolutely, feel free to bring your own kit if you have it.

Do you have gloves that will fit children?

We do have some child-sized gloves but not a huge amount, so if you have some tough gloves you could bring from home for them that may help.

I want to bring a big group - is that a problem?

No, that's fine but please try to add the number of volunteers you are bringing when you register. If it is more than 20, please drop us a note on hello@finalstrawfoundation.org

Why do I need to register?

By signing up, you help us to know how much kit to bring - litter pickers, gloves etc.

What do you do with the rubbish collected?

We sort the rubbish at the end into 'real' rubbish that will be collected by the local council, and recycling. We take the recycling separately so that it doesn't end up in landfill or the Energy Reclamation Facility.

Is the beach clean accessible for those with impairements?

We are currently working on looking at the accessibility of each beach clean and for those with impairments such as learning issues, mobility and language. Details will be available on our website shortly but if you do have specific issues then please email us in the meantime.

Are the beach cleans just for families?

No all ages and abilities can attend. Some people come as a couple, some as individuals, students and families with children. If you have any specific question then please let us know.

Can I book more than 1 ticket?

Yes you can book up to 10 tickets - just press the + arrow on the booking page. If you require more than 10 tickets then please contact us directly.
