HAYSTACKS & FLEETWITH PIKE from Buttermere
Overview
HAYSTACKS & FLEETWITH PIKE from Buttermere
Join us in the remote and picturesque village of Buttermere as we tackle a classic Wainwright journey.
We meet outside the Bridge Hotel and head along the shores of Buttermere lake. We first tackle the nose of Fleetwith Pike, a non-technical but steep ridge, which brings us out close to Honister Slate Mines. From here, we head across to visit Warnscale Bothy with an opportunity to view and photograph the famous view from it's window across Buttermere and Crummock Water. Heading out again, we soon arrive at Innominate Tarn and the legendary Haystacks, reputedly Alfred Wainwright's favourite peaks of the Lake District. After a pause for the views and maybe a bite to eat, we descend back to the lakeside for a leaisurely return to Buttermere and refreshments at the pub.
Wainwrights:
1. Fleetiwth Pike
2. Haystacks
Although there is no technical terrain, this is a challenging hike in a remote mountainous environment where hands may be required to cover steeper rock on occasion. A good level of fitness is required. Groups are encouraged to stick together and there are no medals for finishing first.
