Event Details

Meet senior practitioners from the Toyota Lean Management Centre and learn the Toyota Way, directly from the originators of the Lean methodology.

This event provides LeanHE network members the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the philosophy behind Lean, and discuss the application of key principles driving Toyota’s success. We will use these principles to inform discussions throughout the day, taking a look at where we are now, where we want to get to and how to do it.

The day will involve hearing from leading Lean practitioners at Toyota, as well as interactive workshops that will challenge you to think differently and inspire you to apply Lean values and practice within Higher Education. There will also be plenty of opportunities to meet and network with likeminded people.

You can find more information about the Toyota Lean Management Centre here:

This event has been organised and hosted by the University of Liverpool Strategic Change Process Improvement team on behalf of the LeanHE North and Midlands.

Peter is focussed on understanding the organisational culture and management systems that drive Toyota’s success. He has held management posts across both production and technical functions driving strategic improvements across the European network.

He strongly believes that the biggest asset any organisation has are its people, and that through engagement and coaching you can unleash their full potential. Combining this with good management and processes is key to organisational excellence. Peter is looking forward to sharing his journey and helping us understand transferability of Toyota principles to HE.

Strategic Change Process Improvement Team

The Strategic Change Process Improvement team support strategic and major change projects at the University of Liverpool. They add value and remove waste from University processes to enable staff to be efficient and accomplish more. This is underpinned by the application of Lean methodology in an impartial and consistent way.

Computer Service Department Process Improvement Team

The team has been in place for the last 10 years and over that time the team has worked collaboratively across the University to effect process change and promote a continuous improvement culture. Following a DMAIC approach, they aim to impart the requisite knowledge and skills to enable staff to carry out process improvement projects, particularly those with an impact on technology and systems. The team achieved a remarkable 100% positive feedback to the workshops delivered in 2019, and in 2020 hope to add online modules to make their service even more accessible.

She is an experienced HE professional having worked as Head of Management and Development Services and Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions at Manchester Metropolitan University.
