Indonesia is one Asia’s fastest growing markets.
The economy of a quarter of a billion people and 17,000 islands has continued to grow during the world recession. There has been considerable growth and investment in the transportation, life sciences, infrastructure, financial services, oil and gas, power generation, renewable energies, and mining sectors.
As in other Asian countries, the middle class is expanding rapidly. Indonesia’s consumption has soared over the past decade, and the economy is chasing China’s GDP growth, having already surpassing India’s growth by the end of 2011.
Ambassador Thayeb’s career began in the ASEAN National Secretariat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Indonesia. He has previously held the post of the Head of Political Division at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia in New York and Director-General for Asia, Pacific and African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has also served as Ambassador to Australia, and currently holds the post of Ambassador to both the UK and Ireland.
