Event description

Description

The HEA are working in partnership with Independent Higher Education to deliver a two-day workshop which will focus on supporting individuals to submit a direct application for Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, which is a globally recognised professional status for teaching in Higher Education.

The first session on the 8th December will focus on a detailed overview of the UK Professional Standards Framework to familiarise participants with the dimensions of the framework: Areas of Activity, Core Knowledge and Professional Values. It will also introduce the descriptors of the framework, with a focus on Descriptor 2 (Fellowship of the HEA), what is required of applicants, and examples of suitable evidence to support submissions. The first session will conclude with preparatory tasks set for the second workshop.

The second session on 15th December will form a writing retreat in which the HEA National Accreditor will support the cohort in the drafting process of the application itself, providing information, advice and guidance on making a successful submission. Participants should conclude the workshop series being well equipped to make a submission for Fellowship of the HEA, having a clear understanding of what is required for a successful submission.

Please note that the application process for Fellowship of the HEA is peer-reviewed and as such the HEA cannot guarantee successful outcomes of this process.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided for both workshops.

This event is suitable for:

Individuals with experience of direct teaching in Higher Education who are seeking support in achieving Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, typically:

a. Early career academics

b. Academic-related and/or support staff holding substantive teaching and learning responsibilities

c. Experienced academics relatively new to UK higher education with substantial teaching-only responsibilities including, for example, within work-based settings

About the trainer:

These sessions will be delivered by one of the HEA’s National Accreditors who are fully trained reviewers of individual and institutional submissions for professional recognition or accreditation against the UK Professional Standards Framework.
