Event description

Description

Where: Hull Central Library

When: Friday March 9 at 10.30am and 1.30pm & Saturday March 10 at 9.45am, 11.45am and 2.30pm

Suitable for 4-month - four-year-olds and their accompanying adult.

Tickets: £10 (admits one child and one adult). £5 for additional tickets. Adults must be accompanied by children.

Babies, young children and families are invited to roll, squeeze and pop themselves through a new malleable kind of show, set to an original 1970s-influenced score.

In Turned On Its Head’s Sponge, heading to Hull’s Heads Up Festival, two friendly dancers guide the participants, revealing small- and large-scale squishy, squashy environments, fascinating in shape, texture and touch.

There’s also the leggy character Splegs, who needs a bit of help walking.

Dance company Turned On Its Head makes exciting participatory theatre for early years, taking children on a creative journey, engaging audiences throughout its performances and encouraging lots of family interaction.

Everything in Sponge can be made with simple materials at home so there’s more fun to be had after the show.

Turned On Its Head’s first work was co-commissioned by Curve Theatre, their second by The Spark Arts. Turned On Its Head is an Affiliate Company at Curve, Leicester where Liz Clark runs Little Movers, child-led creative dance with children under 4 and their parents.

Sponge is at Heads Up Festival on March 8-10, with performances open to the public on March 9-10.
