Description

Health & Safety for Small Businesses Workshop (Non-Construction)

Being in business does not need to be a risky business and some simple training, awareness and understanding can help ensure that injuries and incidents can be avoided, employees and clients remain safe and businesses and owners do not find themselves in the firing line for injury claims and potential prosecution.

Many small businesses know they must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA) but are not sure to what extent. Others think that Health & Safety simply does not apply to their activities because they are office based or are low risk. The overarching perception of Health & Safety is that it is going to stop people from working and is going to cost a lot of money - neither of which are true!

Our Small Business Health & Safety Workshops is delivered by a NEBOSH qualified Health & Safety Advisor and aimed towards companies and organisations that are not directly involved in the Construction industry and have less than 5 employees. The workshop will help small business owners and directors understand how to be compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act, demystifying many myths and inaccuracies about H&S and provide useful tools and understanding of how to identify and manage risks presented by the workplace ie being able to write effective Risk Assessments and know what training you need.

Although businesses, organisations and charities employing or engaging less than 5 people in activities on their behalf do not need a written down Health & Safety Policy, Risk Assessments and Arrangements for Health & Safety you still need to have carried out the actual assessments and determined appropriate safe working practices and then be able to communicate that effectively to staff, clients and other third parties who may be affected.

Course Content includes:

- Establishing how the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 impacts your business

- Creating a Statement of Intent and how to implement it

- Essential of H&S training for small businesses and their employees including manual handling and Display Screen Equipment assessments

- Risk Identification and control measures

- Refreshments and lunch

By the end of the workshop participants will have developed a Statement of Intent for Health & Safety and how to make it work. You will be have the tools to understand how risk assessments are developed and have a clear idea of how to identify hazards and their potential control measures by conducting risk assessments (and the free templates provided by many organisations such as the Federation of Small Businesses).

A tailored resource pack will be provided to each participant at the end of the day to enable the Statement of Intent to be implemented. All participants will receive a certificate confirming they have received Basic Health and Safety Awareness in the Workplace by attending the workshop.
