Event description

Description

What’s the workshop about?

We all know that health and safety is important, but what should small charities, voluntary and community groups be doing to protect their volunteers, staff and the public? This workshop, delivered in association with Warwickshire CAVA, explains the law; and looks at the organisational and management steps necessary to make safety compliance a reality.

What will it cover?

We begin this workshop with a short overview of the law; and then look at your general duties towards volunteers, staff and the public. Using case histories and other activities, we will then consider how best to manage health and safety, and most importantly, how to conduct a risk assessment. The workshop finishes with a look at safety resources and your next steps.

Outcomes

Participants will have

1) An understanding of their organisation’s general duties towards volunteers, staff and the public in respect of health and safety law.

2) Raised awareness of good health and safety management practice.

3) An understanding of how to conduct a risk assessment.

The trainer

The workshop will be delivered by David Green, an experienced trainer who works regularly with small charities, voluntary and community groups. David was formerly the chair of a national health and safety committee for further education that brought together employers, trade unions and the Health and Safety Executive.
