About this event
Lessons from the COVID-19 Infection Survey using multilevel regression and post-stratification to obtain representative estimates of trajectories during the pandemic | Dr Koen Pouwels - Senior researcher at the Health Economic Research Centre, University of Oxford
Hosted by ONS' Data Science Campus and Health Analysis Team, this brand-new seminar series is an exciting opportunity to hear about recent developments in health data science, to generate ideas, and to help build the health data science community .
The seminars provide a dedicated space for data scientists, policymakers, health professionals, academics, epidemiologists, statisticians and other members of the data science community to come together to explore the potential of data science to improve health and health policy.
At this seminar you will hear from Dr Koen Pouwels who is a senior researcher at the Health Economic Research Centre, University of Oxford. Koen will present on "Lessons from the COVID-19 Infection Survey using multilevel regression and post-stratification to obtain representative estimates of trajectories during the pandemic".
Abstract
The ONS COVID-19 Infection Survey is the largest longitudinal COVID-19 household survey in the world and has been widely recognised as a gold standard for measuring the state of the epidemic in the UK. It has been used for many analyses, such as prevalence and incidence of infections, antibody level trajectories, behaviour changes, and vaccine effectiveness. National and local estimates of different outcomes have been produced throughout the pandemic using spatio-temporal multi-level regression and post-stratification (MRP). Dr Pouwels will discuss the design of the COVID-19 Infection Survey, what we have learned since its start in April 2020, with a specific focus on the MRP models underlying the widely shared regular output from the survey.
Bio
Dr Koen Pouwels is a senior researcher at the Health Economic Research Centre, University of Oxford. He has co-designed the ONS COVID-19 Infection Survey and has led several analyses that have guided the COVID-19 response in the UK. He recently received the MRF emerging leaders prize for his work on COVID-19. Prior the pandemic his work focused on infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance modelling, economic evaluations, and causal inference.
