Workshop: Managing Researcher Distress in Sensitive Fieldwork
Conducting research on sensitive or emotionally charged topics can be deeply rewarding and impactful, but it can also expose researchers to distress and emotional overwhelm—especially during interviews, observations, or data analysis. This one-hour interactive workshop is designed specifically for researchers to explore the emotional impact of engaging with challenging material in research. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences, recognise early signs of distress, and develop practical, evidence-based strategies to manage emotional strain. Combining reflective discussion with short experiential exercises, this workshop aims to normalise conversations about emotional resilience and to foster sustainable, compassionate research practices that protect both researchers and participants throughout the research journey.
People from all research areas at London Met are welcome to join us online.
Please register and you will receive a link to join the session near the event.
