About this event

Science & Tech • Science

Join Freshwater Habitats Trust and Species Recovery Trust for an early careers training session on New Forest plant identification on September 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM until 15:00 PM, including a break for lunch. We will meet at Whitefield Moor car park (W3W/// ideas.dinner.ascendant ).

This event will be led by Dominic Price, Director of The Species Recovery Trust. Dom specialises in the conservation of endangered species and is a highly regarded botanical tutor, delivering courses for all levels of ecologists since 2007.

This is a great opportunity for any early-careers conservationists to deepen your understanding of the New Forest habitats, rare species, and the challenges of managing this nationally important landscape.

Accessibility Considerations

Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Facilities - there are toilet facilities available in the car park and occassionally an ice cream van.

We will be walking across the New Forest, as such the ground may be uneven and wet or boggy in some areas, though we will avoid areas of deep bog and dense vegetation.

We recommend car sharing wherever possible. Public transport is limited for this particular location.

PLEASE NOTE: This event may be cancelled or rescheduled in the event of extreme weather conditions, however we advise that you come prepared for rain, high temperatures etc (see list below).

What do I need to bring?

  • Water and a packed lunch
  • Sturdy footwear (e.g. walking boots).
  • Suitable clothing e.g. waterproofs, layers (hats, coats, jumpers)
  • Notetaking equipment (e.g. pen and paper) if desired
  • Hand lens if you own one (we will provide some)
  • Any medications you require
