HealthChat with Niall Dickson
Tue 3 May 2016, 17:30 – 20:30 BST
Niall Dickson is Chief Executive and Registrar of the General Medical Council, the overseer of all Doctor registration, training and standards across the UK. He has held the role since 2010 having previously held the CEO position at the Kings Fund and prior to that, a number of years with the BBC. Notably, he has recently announced that he will step down from the role at the end of this year.
Roy Lilley will be asking the key questions of NialI Dickson. Is the GMC fit for purpose? Why do so many GMC hearings appear to take years to come before its own tribunals with the resultant worry and stress that accompanies such a career-defining activity? Does the GMC help or hinder whistle-blowing? What is its position in regards 7 day working and how will it work to support Doctors as well as regulate them? A recent HealthChat guest (and Doctor) confessed that whenever a GMC envelope fell on his doormat he shivered - how can the GMC work to throw off the allegation that it is intimidating?
This will be a fascinating evening with an equally fascinating and very widely experienced guest. Please book early for what is expected to be a very popular HealthChat event.
