Event description
Join Calder Rivers Trust to learn about how to manage grassland for horse health and environmental benefits from experts in the field.

About this event

So many things are important when trying to keep our horses physically and mentally healthy, starting with creating a healthy environment for them to live in. Research has shown that traditional grazing systems are not necessarily the best set-up for the lifestyles of modern horses. Horses are often blamed for damaging grassland and making a mess of fields.

Alternative grazing systems offer us the opportunity to give our horses a more natural lifestyle as well as creating better, healthier, more biodiverse and resilient grasslands for the future. Healthy grass and grassland soil can support more wildlife and pollinators like bees, hold carbon in the soil (an important part of combatting climate change), and slow the flow of water in wet weather, helping to reduce flooding.

Calder Rivers Trust will be launching our new FREE ONLINE COURSE for horse owners interested in learning about managing their grassland.

Join us at Marsden Mechanics Hall from 18:00 on 22nd October 2021 to hear from Dr Tamzin Furtado (University of Liverpool) and Jane and Stuart Myers (Equicentral) about their research into alternative grazing systems, and from Dr Jane Rowling (Calder Rivers Trust) about the new online course in grassland management for healthy horses and a resilient environment.

The bar at the Hall will be open for business, and there will be a cold buffet with sandwiches, pastries and cakes.
