Our Healthy Minds online workshops will help you learn how to run activities to help support the emotional health and well-being of deaf children and young people.

Workshop Overview

Our Healthy Minds programme tackles issues such as low self-esteem, isolation, stress and anxiety. It encourages the use of positive strategies for dealing with change, managing deafness, developing confidence and building social skills.

During these online workshops, you will learn how to effectively use our Healthy Minds guidance document. You will have the opportunity to review some of the Healthy Minds activities and share thoughts and ideas with other professionals.

You’ll leave feeling inspired and confident to encourage deaf children and young people to explore ideas and create strategies to help prevent low self-esteem and poor mental health.

Our updated Healthy Minds guidance: A detailed document to help guide you through using our Healthy Minds programme in your work.
Our new Healthy Minds message board: an online platform where professionals who are putting the Healthy Minds programme into practice can share innovations, ideas, and challenges.

How is the training structured?

The online training is made up of:

x1 e-learning module
x4 live workshops

You will be expected to complete all 5 elements to complete the training.

The x4 live workshops will be hosted on; Thursday 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th June from 1 to 2pm with an optional Q&A from 2 to 2.30pm.

Who is this online training for?

These workshops are designed for all education, health and social care professionals working with deaf children and young people.

How to join?

This will be a Zoom session. When you first join, you may be prompted to download Zoom which only takes a few seconds to do with a normal broadband connection. Full joining instructions will be sent to you prior to the event.

You can access these workshops on any compatible device. We would recommend you join via your computer or laptop to fully contribute throughout the day. You can join using a phone or tablet if necessary, however, we cannot guarantee that all of the functions will work on these devices.

FAQs

How long is each session?

Each session is 1 hour long, however, there is an optional 30-minute Q&A after each session.

Do I need to attend all 4 sessions?

Yes, please only sign up if you are able to attend all sessions. Each session will be different. You will not be able to complete the course and receive your certificate if you do not attend all sessions.

I work with younger children/teenagers – will the training be suitable?

We believe the Healthy Minds guidance is suitable for all ages and abilities. The key is in the skills of the facilitator. As part of the online workshops, the trainer will encourage delegates to reflect on the children they support and consider how they can creatively amend some of the activities or tools to meet the needs of the children they have in mind.

Can we have the resources without attending the training?

As part of our quality assurance – the Healthy Minds guidance document is only available for those who have attended the online training.

Can I join using any device?

Do I need to do any prep before attending?

Yes, you will need to complete the following two tasks prior to the first workshop:

pre-event survey: a mandatory survey to gauge current confidence levels
e-learning module: ‘Healthy Minds for professionals, pre-event information’ is a mandatory e-learning module that will take roughly 30 minutes to complete.

Both of these will be available for completion on our training hub, the week before the workshop. We will provide you with login details closer to the event date if you do not already have an account.

Do I need to book my own communication support?

No, we will book this for you. All communication support requirements including captions and BSL interpreting are available by request only. Please indicate your preference on the booking form.

What if I need to cancel?

If you are unable to attend and need to cancel your place, please contact us at training@ndcs.org.uk. Refunds will be available as below.

If you cancel:

7 working days or less before the planned date, you will be charged 100% of the total cost
8-14 working days before the planned date, you will be charged 50% of the total cost
15 working days before the planned date, you will not be charged.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we do. For Professional Members we offer 5% discount. For Educational Members we offer 10% discount per delegate.

Your discount code will have been sent to you when you became a member. If you’d like a reminder, please contact training@ndcs.org.uk

Please ensure you enter your discount code when booking (displayed as a blue hyperlink ‘Enter promo code’) before you proceed to checkout. If you do not enter it at the point of booking, we may not be able to honour the discount.

Do I need to be a member?

No, however, if you'd like to become a Professional Member you can join for free. If you work in education and would like organisational membership for your early years, school or further education setting, join our new Educational Member (fees apply: £30-60 per academic year).

Our membership allows you to join our community of over 30,000 professionals who are supporting deaf children, young people and their families throughout the UK.

Once you’re registered you will receive your training discount code.

Can I give my place to a friend or colleague if I can't come?

Yes, however, you must notify us in advance, at least 3 days before the first workshop takes place via training@ndcs.org.uk

Can I share my login details with a friend or colleague to join?

No. The login details are for 1 person only.

There will be a registration period prior to the start of the event where we will be checking the name of those entering against the delegate list (names of those registered to the purchased tickets).

If your name does not feature on the list, you will not be allowed entry to the workshop.
