Event description

Description

This workshop has been created for education and health and social care professionals working with deaf children and young people. Our Healthy Minds programme explores good emotional health and wellbeing for deaf young people.

People attending the training course range from Teachers of the Deaf and teaching assistants to speech and language therapists, social workers, youth workers, and clinical psychologists.

What does the workshop cover?
During this interactive workshop we train professionals to deliver sessions helping deaf children and young people to find their own solutions to problems they may encounter. We believe this provides life-long learning tools for the children taking part. Tackling issues such as low self-esteem, isolation, stress and anxiety, Healthy Minds encourages deaf children and young people to use positive strategies for dealing with change, managing their deafness, developing their self-esteem and confidence and building a repertoire of social skills.

Topics covered:
• What is a healthy mind?
• Developing good emotional wellbeing
• Support mechanisms and networks
• Identity - who am I?
• Owning and managing deafness
• I'm OK being deaf

What do delegates say?
“A practical and useful reminder of the resources available…” Teacher of the Deaf, 2019

“Training was pitch perfect – engaging presenter who delivered some great ideas that can be used when working with children…” Specialist Teacher of Hearing Impairment, 2019

This course will run subject to enough delegates booking on. We will let you know whether the course will run two weeks prior to the scheduled date. We advise that you do not book travel or accommodation prior to that confirmation as we will not be able to refund expenses in case of cancellation.
