In collaboration with Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful's Healthy Oceans, Healthy Minds Campaign, delivered by the Northern Ireland Marine Task Force (NIMTF) and hosted by WWT Castle Espie for an exciting event where we dive into the world of nature-based solutions! This in-person event will showcase real-life examples and success stories of how nature can provide sustainable solutions to today's challenges. The event will consist of a talk from the NIMTF Officer, Robert Walsh, supported by Ulster Wildlife's Marine Conservation Manager, Dr Nick Baker-Horne explaining how these practical solutions are meeting objectives of the UK's first Blue Carbon Action Plan, Climate Action Plan and the NI Climate Change Adaptation Programme (NICCAP) followed by a walk onto the grounds of WWT Castle Espie, delivered by Visitor Centre Manager, Paul Stewart to show how some of these super solutions are able to do what they're doing. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and explore the power of nature!

Frequently asked questions

What will be discussed?

Nature-based solutions is a term used by policy and decision makers to explain the natural functions or workings of the environment and how these can be used to benefit society. Saltmarshes, Seagrasses and Benthic Reefs are supercharged solutions if allowed to thrive. We'll be discussing these.

Who is the Northern Ireland Marine Task Force (NIMTF)?

NIMTF, established in 2007, have been representing the marine environment for almost 20 years, pushing for changes to policies affecting the marine environment to ensure healthy, productive and resilient seas. Have we done it yet? Not fully, but we're making waves in this space and you can help us!

Is there plenty of parking spaces?

Whilst there are parking spaces available, these are not exhaustive and would recommend public transport where possible.

Are there any facilities on site?

There are bathrooms, a cafe and a shop within the Wetland Centre itself. There are disabled parking bays for those with a blue badge and a few electric vehicle (EV) charge points.
