Event description
Fragments of theatre, conversation and words inspired by the poetry of Seamus Heaney, written by Nicola McCartney presented Big Telly style.

About this Event

A special event for lovers of theatre, poetry and words of Northern Ireland.

Big Telly Theatre Company present two short pieces of theatre based on the poetry of Seamus Heaney, with sensory audio and visual experiences, and readings of a selection of Heaney’s poems.

The two plays written by Nicola McCartney were originally written for ‘Bog People’ (Big Telly 2009). This is an intimate experience for audience – an interactive, sharing performance event to inspire both conversation and celebration of Heaney’s body of work and sources of inspiration.

Originally from Big Telly's ‘Bog People’ and directed by Zoe Seaton, Nicola McCartney’s writings weave intricate portrayals of the humanity and the landscape so beautifully and painfully captured by Heaney’s work. The performance style is sparse, intimate, evocative paying homage to Heaney’s extraordinary depiction of landscape, belonging, the domestic and the epic.

Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Dark Horse and its courtyard dedicated to NI poets. Enjoy its fine craft beers during this understated but intimately engaging celebration of Heaney's influence on creative life in Ireland, presented with Big Telly's warmth and familiar uniqueness of approach.
