Description
Hear Th↓s Space workshop
The first on a series of bi-monthly events leading into Full of Noises 2015, each exploring a particular theme, idea or body of work. For this first event, you are invited to join Hear Th↓s Space and take a sonic journey around Barrow-in-Furness, working with us to compose and perform a piece of music or performance sound art.
The workshop includes:
Soundwalk: This will be a walk through the local area, listening to and recording sounds, stories and moments that make this place special to you. You will get a chance to work with a range of recording devices and processes, with experienced field recording artists from Hear Th↓s Space. The focus is on sound but in the broadest sense. This may include listening to accents, dialects and rhythms of speech, or the rhythms or acoustics of the locality. To this end we welcome working with musicians, dancers, poets, architects, town planners, film makers, visual artists, naturalists and any one who has a story, or just wants to have ago.
Composition and Devising: In the afternoon we will demonstrate some approaches to assembling work, working with recordings made in the local area and discuss spatial performance possibilities. This will include an introduction to basic sound editing on computer or iOS devices, in addition to some multi-loudspeaker sound and performance systems. From there you will be encouraged to create a work, or works, for a forthcoming concert in September. Here your work will be played or performed alongside commissioned pieces by established composers, curated for the event and the place.
We look forward to collaborating with you and sharing ideas, perspectives and skills with the potential to create a unique and special event. Places are limited to 10 people.
