About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

This second Heart Failure webinar follows on from the very successful first event held on the 3rd July – Heart Failure: Recognising the signs and symptoms. The inaugural webinar agenda included a session from Jack Lyon (NENC ICB) setting the scene for HF in NENC and why this workstream is a key CVD priority. The second presentation was delivered by Professor Ahmet Fuat (GPSI cardiology) giving a helicopter view of the HF disease burden in England, as well as how to diagnose and manage the condition.

The second webinar in the series aims to build on this foundation and dwell on some key programme wide delivery objectives, namely patient identification / searches through the Clinical Digital Resource Collaborative (CDRC) tool and the BEAT HF campaign, a UK-wide initiative focusing on raising awareness about heart failure, particularly targeting early recognition of symptoms and promoting timely diagnosis – which is spearheaded by the Pumping Marvellous Foundation.

Most people in the UK are diagnosed with heart failure in hospital. A recent study showed 80% of people in the UK were first diagnosed with heart failure during a hospital admission even though 40% had presented with symptoms in primary care within the last five years (Bottle et al, 2018). Not only is this traumatic for the individual, and places a high burden on secondary care, evidence also shows that those diagnosed with heart failure in an emergency admission will have significantly worse outcomes that those diagnosed in primary care (Wand et al ,2023).

We are delighted to welcome the following speakers:

  • Chair of the Heart Failure ICB NENC Working Group (TBC)
  • Ben Mole, CDRC Programme Manager
  • Nic Hartshorne-Evans, Founder and CEO of the Pumping Marvellous Foundation

The event will support healthcare professionals in recognising the signs and symptoms of heart failure, enabling more timely specialist assessment and diagnosis. This ensures that patients receive the right treatment at the right time, leading to better outcomes for people living with heart failure in the North East and North Cumbria (NENC).

Who should attend

  • Specialist workforce in primary and secondary care
  • NHSE CVD leads
  • ICB CVD leads
  • industry partners
  • policy makers, wider healthcare services commissioners

During the session

We will keep participants muted whilst we are presenting. This avoids distracting our speakers and reduces sensory stimulation which is important for some people. However, if you wish to ask a question you can do this by adding it to the chatbox.

Please feel free to turn your camera on and off as you need to. If you need it off the whole time, that is totally fine.

If you need a break at any time during the session, then please leave the meeting and re-join again when you feel ready.

Organised by

The Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria (HI NENC) is dedicated to improving healthcare and supporting wealth creation through partnership working and promotion of innovation across the NHS, Academia and Industry.

With a remit to provide system-wide integration, we facilitate interactions with multiple partner organisations across the region. Principally we work with the NHS Trusts, CCGs and Universities which form our core membership, and we collaborate closely with many other stakeholder groups. We support the inclusive, collegiate approaches that are needed to address shared problems at a system level.

Wealth Creation and Health Improvement have a common requirement for innovation. HI NEC supports all aspects of innovation across healthcare from creating a culture that supports the innovation through to the dissemination and adoption of effective practice and proven technologies.

We have therefore achieved the regional reach and the local buy-in that is necessary to deliver cross-organisational programmes to improve health and create wealth in the region.
