Join us for a evening of ecstatic dance. Get ready to move your body, connect with your inner rhythm, and let the music guide you on a transformative journey.

Embrace the freedom of expression as you dance your heart out in a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. We will curate a diverse mix of beats, ranging from world music to electronic tunes, ensuring there's something for everyone.


MORE ABOUT THIS SESSION

Ecstatic Dance is self expression through free form dance and movement. It's an embodiment practice connecting heart, mind, body and soul. It's a space where you can be authentically you and allow what comes as the music takes you on a journey. No experience necessary.


Ecstatic Dance Folkestone is a community of people who love music, dance and the opportunity to connect. Sasha and André always welcome new friends, people of all ages, genders and diversities. Everyone is welcome, just as you are.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A warm welcome with information at the start about how to settle in and enjoy the dance journey.
  • A host (usually Sasha) who will hold an opening and closing ceremony and remain present to hold the space and dance with you.
  • A room decorated with love, candles and incense.
  • Diverse, conscious, beautiful and sometimes banging music for you to dance freely in.
  • An invitation to express yourself.
  • A community of people to share the space with.

FORMAT (EVENING SESSIONS ONLY)

  • 18:45 Arrive & warm-up music (a chance to stretch, tune in or sit down and find your breathe).
  • 18.55 Opening circle (a quick introduction to ecstatic dance and a chance to say hello)
  • 19.10 Ecstatic Dance Movement (into non-verbal, live DJ music)
  • 20.00 Closing circle (we come back to share and integrate)

NOTE: To assist with creating a container that feels safe for all, please arrive in the space for the opening by 18.55 pm latest. This is an important & valuable part of the practice.

The dance area is non-verbal & without shoes or phones please, you can chat in the entrance if you like - Thank you for your understanding

SOME ECSTATIC DANCE GUIDELINES

  • No talking during the dance (if you wish to talk, you are welcome to chat before/after dance outside the main dance space).
  • Drug-Free, Smoke-Free, Alcohol-Free environment
  • No photos or videos, Mobile phones muted and out of sight
  • Care/Awareness for the co-created space and each other
  • Move your body however you wish
  • No spectating. Stay connected to your own body, sensations, emotions, and feelings. If you need a break, slow down or take a look out of the window
  • Respect space. (If you’d rather not dance with someone, thank them for the offer by placing your hands in prayer position at your heart – Namaste. Thank you, no thank you.)

WHAT TO BRING

  • Comfortable clothes you can move in
  • A bottle of water

* Please be mindful of Covid government guidelines. Although the space is sanitised before we make use of it, we are not required to ask for Covid tests. Please show kindness to the community and if you are not well, wait until you are symptom free before coming to dance*.

It is worth knowing that we do use candles, white sage and incense as part of the ceremony. We also use some lighting - not flashing, but moving and with colours. If you are sensitive to such stimulus or are concerned about the impact, please feel free to get in touch and ask questions.
