About this event
Heartbreakers: A 5-Week Poetry Workshop on Heartbreak & HealingWith Charlie Brogan (MA, Poetry)
NOTE: The total fee for the 5-week course is £109. Please purchase one ticket starting 3rd of August and you will be eligible for ALL classes.
Join poet and writer Charlie Brogan for a five-week online workshop series exploring the emotional and artistic terrain of heartbreak, and the powerful act of healing through poetry.
From Sappho to Sexton, heartbreak has long been a muse for poets. But what happens when we trace that ache all the way to joy? This course begins in sorrow and moves gently toward light, through loss, rage, embodiment, humour, friendship, and, finally, self-love.
Each week, we’ll explore both classic and contemporary texts, discussing poetic form, tone, and technique before moving into guided generative writing sessions. You’ll learn how to channel difficult emotions into art, sharpen your work into crafted drafts, and begin shaping a small collection of healing poems. Expect a blend of honest conversation, playful experimentation, and deep attention to language.
You’ll leave with:
- 5+ new poem drafts
- A stronger sense of your poetic voice
- Tools for editing, titling, and finishing your work
- A deeper connection to the history and future of heartbreak poetry
- A small community of fellow writers who just get it
We’ll explore poets such as Ada Limón, Ocean Vuong, Ross Gay, Rachel Long, and Hera Lindsay Bird, alongside the legends that are Shakespeare, Rossetti and Dickinson. We’ll write sonnets, list poems, persona pieces, and poems of praise. We’ll write ourselves back to joy.
No previous poetry experience required. Just bring a notebook, a pen, and your tender heart.
