Fellow Interintellect Olena Bulygina explores the complicated intersection between human emotion and technological advancement.

About this Event

💔🤯

"That feeling when you express yourself through one emoji and everyone gets it. That feeling when you don't know if it's a Slack reaction type of situation, or should you be old-fashioned and send a whole message? That feeling when you have been replaying Guinea Pig Bridge video a couple of times in a row on a weekly basis. That feeling of doomscrolling at 4AM, eyes wide open, with a particular sense of rage hangover after another 2020 news cycle. That feeling when Amazon algorithms don't cut it, and you miss the bookstores for serendipitous connections and just seeing books on the shelves. That feeling when Spotify discovers a whole forgotten part of yourself. That feeling when your tweet goes viral and there is no Soundcloud to promote. That feeling when your kid asked Siri instead of you.

That feeling when you think you've lost your phone. That feeling. All the feelings.

Our relationships — and lives — with technology are complicated, and the emotional part of them is often invisible. This whole relationship is rarely rational — we go from techno optimists to doomsday prophets within one conversation. The focus on effectiveness, efficiency and ease of use makes even the most well-made digital products capitulate in front of our messy and chaotic realities. Oh, and there's inevitable AI. There has been much progress made on the cognitive layer of tech. How do we resolve this paradoxical tension with the emotional aspect of it? Is it human-machine harmony rather than human-computer interaction? How do we create these relationships?

Join us for an evening of surfing the future of feelings, untangling emotions and their representations, forecasting, imagining how emotionally intelligent design may look like, and bringing the plethora of stories about highs and lows of technology." - Salon Host Olena Bulygina
