Hearts at Barts - Heart 'Potting' Class
Sat 4 June 2016, 13:00 – 16:00 BST
Attend a four hour workshop at Barts Pathology Museum to learn the exact techniques used to preserve human specimens in pathology collections today. The museum's technical curator, Carla Valentine (trained at The Royal College of Surgeons, UCL Pathology Collections and The Gordon at Kings) will guide you through the current method as you 'pot' a fixed lamb’s heart to take home with you.
Included is a brief history of previous preservation techniques honed by masters such as Frederik Ruysch and John Hunter accompanied by a spectacularly illustrated talk full of incredible facts, a Heartini cocktail (with Hendricks gin), and all materials used - including this beautiful tote bag (by Lozzy Bones) to carry your precious pot home in.
***Arrive at 1pm for a 1:30PM start
***There is time to view the collection
***No toxic fluids are used in this class and all PPE is provided
