About this event

  • 4 hours

Come and join our Heartwood Tribe for some 'Jack in the Green' Frolics to welcome in summer at Heartwood! We're really looking forward to offering you a fun day out for all the family in the woods this May - you can look at our photos to get a flavour of our past adventures :)

As always there will be fun challenges, surprises, seasonal crafts, camp fires, delicious tea and cake, and the opportunity to swing in a hammock and the chance for the adults to enjoy some woodland yoga and meditation. Keep your eye out for the Green Woman of the Woods - she often brings gifts, but you must be willing to be 'greened' first!

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

As a community contribution, we will be offering tickets to this event on a cost only basis, so just £5 per head, which covers the per person cost of hiring Frylands Wood and £1.50 towards craft materials and refreshments. Under 2's go free as always. All our amazing staff team will be volunteering their services for free to make this event go ahead.

With that in mind, if you feel financially able, we offer you the opportunity to make a donation to Go Wild With Us UK, (absolutely no obligation) which will help us towards the development of Heartwood, taking us towards our target of having our own covered yoga deck, green gym and yurt with a woodburner! You can do this by selecting an extra 'donation ticket' at the checkout.

Do come dressed up in as much Green as you can! Remember your layers - this is the UK after all, even if we are on the cusp of summer! Bring a picnic and if you'd like to you can bring something simple to cook on the fire like a tin of hotdogs or beans. We have a toasting rack which you can toast cheese sandwiches, bread, hot cross buns or anything else 'toastable'!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

(Just to note, there is an additional small booking fee for booking with Eventbrite. Unfortunately we do not have the admin capacity to accept and collate bookings made directly with us, so cannot offer this option at this time)

If you came last year, you'll know about our chilled out, go with the flow approach! There will be activities on offer throughout the day, but no set schedule. We'll let the day unfold as it will, and that includes your arrival time!

If you are not staff, please don't arrive before 11am as we will not be ready!! However, if you manage to arrive at 11am, you will get to experience everything on offer, but we leave it up to you when you arrive and when you leave. We will be packing up at 3pm and always, we heartily welcome help to clear up.

When you arrive, head for the big metal gate at the start of the car park but the cabins, which leads into the woods and for your first challenge, you can follow the green ribbons to find us! (You can find us at Heartwood which is at the top of the wood - if you're not up for the challenge, you can ask for directions at reception - they can provide you with a map of the site.)

Just a little reminder about what to bring / expect.

Clothing for cold and wet weather - hoping as always for a dry, sunny day, but you never know!

A picnic! You are welcome to bring something small to share with other families, but there is no obligation to do so at all, as everyone will have their own packed lunches and there will be a communal soup and marshmallows provided. If you want to, you can also bring a tin of beans, hotdogs or similar - we don't have saucepans for everyone to use, so please stick to something tinned that we can put in the embers of the fire (make sure it has a ring-pull or bring a tin opener!) or you can bring a cheese sandwich, crumpet / hot cross bun or similar that we can put in our little toasting rack and you can toast over the fire!

A mug for hot drinks.

A camping chair is useful if you have one. There is some log seating. Alternatively you could bring a picnic blanket but make sure it has a waterproof back, as the ground will be damp.

Come dressed in as much green as you can - its your choice but we love to see people's efforts!

Let us know if you have any dietary requirements or allergies on arrival. We will be providing both vegan and milk based hot chocolate, and veggie / halal marshmallows. There will also be some cake to share!

We look forward to Going Wild with you!

Go Wild With Us is a Community Interest Company with a mission to try and reconnect people with nature and their own wildness. We believe that everyone needs regular contact with nature and the outdoors, and both research and personal experience tells us that being outdoors and spending time in nature is absolutely essential for good mental and physical well being.

We know that not everyone is lucky enough to have access to wild spaces all the time, but through our partnerships with local community groups and charities, we try to do our bit to enable children, young people and families from a variety of backgrounds to get some meaningful time out there in nature.
