Heat as a Service: Stakeholder Workshop

Location

Description

The need to accelerate the decarbonisation of heating, as well as the rise of the ‘smart home’, mean that there is an increasing focus on the role of innovative consumer offerings in driving the shift to zero carbon domestic heating. Heat as a service (HaaS) models which provide heat as a packaged service rather than simply as units of fuel are therefore receiving increased attention in terms of their potential to support a step-change in the rate of heat decarbonisation. The first local UK trial of heat as a service launched in February 2019. However, there is limited evidence on how such business models might develop, their role in decarbonisation, the challenges of consumer engagement, and regulatory or policy needs for a wider roll-out.

This workshop, therefore, aims to explore the evidence needs and research gaps relating to developing Heat as a Service, and support stakeholders to network with research organisations. Following the workshop, a report will be produced detailing the current state of knowledge and research gaps.
