About this event
- 7 hours 30 minutes
Come and join us in this unique conference and engage with some of the UK's most experienced and knowledgeable heat pump installers, policymakers, academics and engineers and help figure out how we are going to install the first million domestic heat pumps in the UK!
Using an 'unconference' format, the agenda will be created and led by the attendees , drawing on the amazing diverse range of skills and knowledge available on the day. With up to 60 attendees there will be three breakout sessions, each with a choice of up to 5 alternative talks/discussions to attend.
Hosted by the Energy Systems Catapult, a few minutes walk from New Street Station, doors will open at 9am for a 10am start; formal sessions will end at 4pm with the venue remaining available for informal networking until 6pm.
Lunch and refreshments provided. We have picked this date to coincide with the Installer Show taking place on the following 3 days up the road at the Birmingham NEC.
Frequently asked questions
The venue is very central in the heart of Birmingham City centre a few minutes walk from Birmingham New Street Station.
No, this event takes place the day before Installer Show at the Birmingham NEC starts allowing you to make one trip and attend both events. The journey to the NEC takes 11 minutes by train.
Yes, during the initial plenary session everyone will be encouraged to identify talks or discussions that they would like to attend and possibly also lead or co-lead.
The unconference is a proven ‘bottom-up’ conference format that works really well for rapidly-emerging sectors attended by the experts in a subject area, allowing them to identify and convene break-out sessions reflecting their interests.
The Energy Systems Catapult are the venue sponsor and have generously offered us use of the space without charge. We are currently on the lookout for someone to sponsor the refreshments. Administration costs are covered by ticket sales. Any monies left over will be used for next year’s event.
The primary motivation for charging is to encourage people who change their mind about attending to cancel and get a refund to free up a space for someone who does want to attend. The fees will pay our expenses for administering the event. Any funds left over will be used to help run the next event.

We are going to need to think big if we are to successfully and rapidly decarbonise the UK’s 24 million homes. The title of this event is to remind us of this because if we can crack how to install the first million heat pumps the following 23 million will be easy!
