Description

The University of West London invites visitors to view the onsite exhibition 'Heathrow: The Journey' which tells the story of Heathrow from its opening in 1946 to more recent times. The event is part of the Heritage Open Day programme (see: https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/).

Heathrow: The Journey exhibition at the University of West London is offering a free tour and talk from our UWL Archivist as part of the 'Heritage Open Day' festival of events (https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/). We are one of hundreds of visitor attractions across the UK who are offering free events between 13th and 22nd September 2019. Heritage Open Days is coordinated nationally by the National Trust with support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery and this year HOD celebrates its 25th anniversary. Book a place via this Eventbrite site (places limited to 15 per day) and then come along to listen to a short talk by our UWL Archivist on the history of Heathrow as shown through the archive and get a tour of both the exhibition and UWL archive.

Thanks to generous funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Heathrow and University of West London we’ve been able to catalogue and make available to students, researchers and the public this fascinating collection of items which tell the story of Heathrow’s history from 1946 to 2016. Our archivist talk will give you an opportunity to learn more about the collection and handle some of the items within the archive. For more information about the Exhibition and Archive, please go to: https://www.uwl.ac.uk/HeathrowExhibition.
