It has been estimated that treating illnesses linked to cold homes costs the NHS £540million per year and 4,950 Excess Winter Deaths in winter 2022/23 were attributed to cold homes.
Our short training course will equip you to make every contact count by identifying who is at risk of ill health from living in a cold home, how to ask people about keeping safe, warm and well at home, and how to help people whose homes may be too cold, including where to refer for further support.
In doing this, the course specifically responds to the recommendations of NICE Guideline 6 regarding the roles of health and social care practitioners in mitigating the health risks from cold homes.
We will also cover ways to make sure vulnerable patients can be kept safe and warm through sign-ups to the Priority Services Register, locking cooker valves, and raising awareness of the risks of carbon monoxide.
