Following tainted money from its origins in Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, St Kitts, St Kitts, Grenada and beyond to its disposal on country houses, gilt furniture and opulent paintings, HEIRESSES exposes how, for almost two centuries, generations of women became enslavers and plantation owners in their own right and brought huge fortunes back to Britain.
Join us for an in conversation event with author of Heiresses, Dr Miranda Kaufmann, and Dr Désha Osborne, Chancellor’s Fellow in English and Scottish Literature at the University of Edinburgh to discuss the Scottish women who made their wealth through the enslavement of African people in the Caribbean, the lives of the people they enslaved, and the legacies still with us today.
This event is in collaboration with Lighthouse, Edinburgh's radical bookshop, and copies of Heiresses will be available to purchase.
