Description

Helen Dampier, ‘Forgotten Heroine? Recovering Emily Hobhouse, 1899-1926.’

This talk explores the issues associated with recovering 'forgotten' women as 'heroines', focusing on the Emily Hobhouse Letters Project. The project recovers the letters and networks of Hobhouse (1860-1926), who was a humanitarian reformer and campaigner. She is celebrated in South Africa as a heroine of the South African (Boer) War (1899-1902) but largely unknown in Britain.
