HELIX Maker Challenge
Overview
Join us for our first HELIX Challenge!
For this challenge we're calling all makers, crafters, sewers, designers and engineers to come up with a solution to a mystery problem. During this launch event, we'll introduce the challenge and the project brief, set by University of Leeds alum and Filamentive founder, Ravi Toor.
Participants will then have three weeks to go away and create their design. There will be a prize pool of £250 in vouchers, as well as other HELIX goodies up for grabs to our favourite entries.
This session is split into two parts. We'll be announcing the brief between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. Afterwards, we'll be running a prototyping workshop that participants can choose to attend, though it is not mandatory.
HELIX Challenges are open for everyone who uses our space, no matter your background or skill level. This maker challenge will have a broad brief and we encourage a range of responses. That might involve creating a prototype, sewing something, writing a business plan or making a piece of art. If you like making things, whatever that is, this is the challenge for you.
Following the introduction of the challenge, we'll be running a session on prototyping, which will arm you with the skills you need to create your solution, as well as giving an introduction to the Makerspace.
Participants can enter individually or in teams of up to four. You can gather your friends to create your team before the challenge starts, as well as find others on the day.
The deadline for entries will be Monday December 8th at 1pm.
The HELIX Challenge is primarily open to students at the University of Leeds. Staff and alumni can enter the competition in partnership with current students, but are not eligible for cash awards.
