Hell On The Humber is an endurance event series like no other, and Hell On The Humber, Ho Ho HOTH - HOTH Reloaded, is the third, and youngest of the events. Running this year for the third time!
Ho Ho HOTH sees competitors taking on the tough and demaning Hell On The Humber route on the World famous Humber Bridge for six hours, as they try to complete as many 4 mile laps as possible in that time. There's no upper mileage limit, though there are course records just begging to be smashed, and all we ask is that particupants complete a minimum of one lap every 2 hours. How hard could it be???
To add to the fun, the competitors and event crew like to dress up in fancy dress for the event (though this isn't mandatory of course), and with the event taking place in December, what better fancy dress theme than all things Christmas? HOTH May well be the longest Santa Run in the world! The event crew even lay on some festive and quite yummy hot gluhwein and gingerbread at the finish.
You don't have to be an Ultra runner to take part in the HOTH Event Series, though many experienced long distance runners from across the country do return to the event year after year and rack up some impressive distances. You don't even have to be a runner to take part, walkers are always welcome. All we ask is that you complete the minimum number of laps, you're 16 or over (under 18's require parental consent), and that you be part of the event with the right attitude, that being one of enjoyment, inclusion, and support. Egos aren't welcome. Every finisher receives the coveted finisher's shirt, and has their mileage added to the HOTH Leaderboard.
The Ho Ho HOTH supports the Ellie Penrose Fund, a charity set up in the name of our close friend Ellie Penrose, died unexpectedly from meningitis in August 2015 aged just 18. Ellie ran at HOTH events in 2013 and 2014, both times finishing with 28 miles under her belt, and was the youngest ever HOTH competitor, finishing her first Hellween race aged just 16; and when she wasn't racing she could often be found helping out behind the scenes, working hard to make sure the runners had everything they needed to enjoy their race. We have five free Ellie Entries available at this HOTH race for those who want to raise money for Ellie's charity. We don't charge for the Ellie entries, we just ask that those running for the fund raise as much as they can in sponsorship, the minimum being the equvelent of the entry fee (£30). Interested fund raisers should email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
