Event Details

Hell On The Humber is an endurance event series like no other, and each year on the third weekend in August, otherwise known as HOTH weekend (to the initiated), hundreds of runners and walkers from across the country descend on the world famous Humber Bridge, to test themselves in running, walking, shuffling, and crawling over it.

HOTH sees the many competitors taking on the tough and demanding Hell On The Humber route on the World famous Humber Bridge for 6, 12, 24, or the newly introduced for 2018 36 hours, as they try to complete as many 4 mile laps as possible in that time. There's no upper mileage limit, though there are long standing and pretty impressive course records, some of which have proved just too tough to break over the last 5 years. All we ask is that particupants complete a minimum of one 4 mile lap every 3 hours.  How hard could it be???

You don't have to be an Ultra runner to take part in the HOTH Event Series, though many experienced long distance runners from across the country do return to the event year after year and rack up some impressive distances. You don't even have to be a runner to take part, walkers are always welcome.  All we ask is that you complete the minimum number of laps, you're 18 or over for the 12, 24, and 36 hour races and 16 and over for the 6 hour (under 18's require parental consent), and that you be part of the event with the right attitude, that being one of enjoyment, personal challenge, inclusion, and support. Egos aren't welcome.  Every finisher receives the coveted finisher's shirt, and has their mileage added to the HOTH Leaderboard.  There's also a very bling finisher's medal!

HOTH 36

A new addition to the HOTH Event Series in 2018 is the HOTH 36 race.  Starting on the Friday evening of HOTH weekend in August, the 36 hour event will see a small number of experienced runners get a 12 hour head start on the 24 hour runners.  HOTH 36 takes HOTH running to the limits.  You thought the 12 was hard, and the 24 the reserve of fools?  Wait until you see what the 36 does to the legs and the mind.

HOTH Relays & Kid's Tower Run

If the full thing is a litle much for you, or you prefer shorter and faster distances, we offer a Team Relay option which will allow you and two 'friends' to take it in turns knocking off the laps for 12 or 24 hours.  If you're too young for the full thing, we also have a Kid's Tower Run on HOTH weekend each year where the children of competitiors, friends, and family complete between one and five miles at the event.

HOTH 5 & 10

In 2017 we will be adding the HOTH 5 & 10 Events to the HOTH Weekend calendar, a pair of short, sharp runs held on the Friday night before HOTH 36/24/12/6 in August.  These events are for members of the HOTH family who are either running in HOTH 24 or HOTH 12 and want just that little bit more time on the bridge when they should be resting, or for their crew / supporters, just so the love of the bridge can be shared... HOTH 5 & 10 are also open to previous HOTH participants who for some reason, such as injury or a reprieve of common sense, can't take part in the main events.  Please note that the HOTH 5 & 10 Events are run under HOTH rules, and egos will be dealt with in exactly the same manner as those at other HOTH events.  Entry will be £5 / £10 respectively, and pre registration (no payment required) is currently available. HOTH 5 & 10 Participants will receive a finisher's memento, but won't receive the medal or t shirt given to those finishing the big kids events on Sunday morning, which is only fair.

 Charity Runners

Many HOTH runners take part in the events to raise much needed funds for charities and good causes, and we encourage this and support the runners where possible.  Unfortunately we're not able to offer any free races for these charity runners, as all of our free charity places are currently donated to the Ellie Penrose Fund.  The fund is a charity set up by the family of Ellie Penrose, a close friend, HOTH crew member and runner, and youngest ever HOTH competitor, to allow them to support young people in their sporting endeavours.  To take one of these five free charity places you should contact the race director - karl@hellonthehumber.com

The number of HOTH Event entries is strictly LIMITED, and once sold out we will operate a waiting list.
