Step into the Hellcat Creative Lab for an evening of curiosity, connection, and creative play. The Feminist Eye invites artists, makers, writers and deep thinkers to explore the “female gaze” in film and television and what it means for how we see, create, and connect in a rapidly changing media landscape.
The evening begins with an interactive presentation unpacking:
- What the Female Gaze really is and how it contrasts with the male gaze.
- How framing, lighting, sound, and movement shape the stories we consume.
- Examples of films and shows that subvert or embrace these ideas.
- How creators can explore sexuality without falling into sexualisation.
- The social and ethical questions facing creatives today especially with AI entering the conversation.
Then, the floor is yours. In true Hellcat style, you’ll join other creatives for an open exploration session; discuss, explore, sketch, write, shoot, paint, or simply play with the concepts raised in the first half. Use this time to feed your practice, plant the seeds of a new idea, or simply enjoy the collective energy of making something new together.
Bring:
- A notepad and pen
- Any creative materials you’d like to work with (sketchbooks, paints, cameras, etc.)
- An open mind, ready for inspiration and collaboration
Whether you’re an artist hungry for fresh ideas, a filmmaker exploring your voice, or simply someone curious about how media shapes our understanding of identity and power, The Feminist Eye is your chance to learn, connect, and create in a vibrant, collaborative space.
