Help Create New Cycling Route Maps in Preston

Event Location: Plungington Community Centre

We’re working to make cycling safer and easier in Preston – and we need YOUR help!

Join our Cycle Route Map-Making Sessions with Preston-based artist, Gavin Renshaw and share your local knowledge to help design a better, more accessible cycling network for everyone. The sessions promise to be fun and creative events where we will work together to map out cycling routes in our community. Whether you're a regular cyclist or want to cycle more often, this event is for you!

What will we be doing at the map making session?

We will look at large scale map of the local area and mark up the cycling journeys we often make, and discover the safest and quietest ways of doing them; the danger/hazards we avoid; and the improvements to cycling infrastructure we would like to see.

Let's highlight best commuting routes, identify new routes, and local landmarks that will make our cycling maps unique. Bring your enthusiasm for getting out on your bike more, and let's create something special together. See you there!

Organised by

We are a not-for-profit, co-operatively run cycle organisation in Preston that enables Preston communities to access and get on their bikes, and reduce waste by re-using and recycling bikes that otherwise might end up in landfill.

Our vision - Preston as a place where everyone in the community benefits from more people cycling, where everyone can experience the benefits of owning, maintaining and riding their own bike.

Aims -To actively break down barriers to cycling and promote the benefits of cycling, especially of cycling those short everyday journeys, to as many people as we can.

Ethos - At Preston Pedals we believe that more people cycling is better for our health and wellbeing as well as our environment.

We bring people together to improve access to cycling. Our friendly and welcoming bike mechanics and ride leaders refurbish bicycles; fix and show people how to repair their bicycles and we organise social led rides. In summary:

1. Refurbish used bikes - we refurbish second hand bikes donated from the public giving them a new lease of life and saving them from going to landfill.

2. Bike repair and maintenance - we work in communities to support everyone who wants to learn how to repair and maintain their bicycle, upskilling and educating them to increase confidence in looking after bikes.

3. Support to ride – we help to build the confidence of cyclists, especially newbie and less experienced cyclists through social led rides that are fun!

4. Develop a cycling culture - growing a community who cycle, and a culture of everyday cycling in Preston for proven benefits for health, wellbeing and improving our environment.

We have been kindly supported by grants from the National Lottery Community Fund, Preston City Council, Cycling UK Big Bike Revival, Preston Co-operative Development Network (PCDN), and Lancashire County Council Active Travel Team.

Bike donations always gratefully received!
