Event description

Description

This year Hemdean House School is celebrating 160 years since it was founded.

This makes it one of the oldest Schools in Berkshire.

On September 22nd, as part of the UK Heritage Open Days scheme, Hemdean House School will be opening its doors. This will be a unique opportunity to see a Victorian School which is still in actively used by pupils today.

It forms part of a wider event that day that will include traditional afternoon teas and other refreshments. In addition, there will be a Victorian School experience, a carousel and other vintage (and more modern) entertainment for children to enjoy. (Please see the School website and Facebook page for more details).

The School House tours are open to all: You may be a former pupil or teacher, you may have an interest in the history of Caversham and Reading, you may simply wander along Hemdean Road or see the House from Balmore Park and wonder what goes on behind the gates!

Whatever your reason for visiting, we look forward to greeting you and showing you around our historic site. (

Please note, places are limited and most be booked in advance)
