About this Event

About this event

Saturday July 18 2020 will see the first Hen Harrier Day hosted in Wales. The event will take place at Plas y Brenin National Outdoor Centre located in the heart of the stunning Snowdonia National Park; a land of mountains, myths and legend.

Featuring

Guest speakers include Iolo Williams, Dr Ruth Tingay (Raptor Persecution UK and Wild Justice), Dr Cathleen Thomas (RSPB Hen Hen Harrier LIFE project), Sgt. Stuart Grainger (Operation Owl), Alan Davies (Birdwatching Trips & former RSPB Conwy Site Manager) and Dan Rouse (Welsh Ornithologist and wildlife conservationist) plus more to be announced. There'll be some fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs including guided nature walks, guided mountain days in Snowdonia, rock climbing day, birdwatching trips and many more.

Venue

Plas y Brenin offers accommodation, food and a licensed bar so why not stay for the weekend and explore the spectacular surroundings.

The local area

The hills, valleys and coastlines of Wales provide a haven for our wildlife. Ospreys have regularly and successfully bred in Snowdonia since 2004, following an absence of over 200 years and the success story of the Welsh red kites is well known. We have strongholds of red squirrels on Anglesey and a small number of pine marten in mid Wales, which are slowly moving North and more plans to introduce them to North Snowdonia. A 2016 survey on hen harriers revealed 35 pairs in Wales and numbers are slowly increasing.

Organisers

Hen Harrier Day Wales is organised by Mountain Escapes and Julian Cartwright Mountain Adventures, who organise outdoor events in Snowdonia. All proceeds will be shared equally between Hen Harrier Action and the Glaslyn Osprey Project.

Tickets

This is a free event but it will be very popular and to make sure as many as possible can actually attend we're asking for a deposit of £10 per person when you book. On the day we'll explain how to get a refund of your deposit (less roughly 15% booking fees) but of course we'll welcome it if you choose instead to donate the deposit to our fundraising.
