A Lady of Letters - Performed by Sheena Ison .Theo Theobald - In My Words!+another chance to see BUZZNG written & performed by Debbie Bird!!

About this event

Henley Arts4All 3 in 1 evening begins at 7:15 p.m. with one of Alan Bennett's award winning Talking Heads Monologues:

A Lady of Letters- Performed by Sheena Ison

Irene Ruddock (played by Sheena Ison), is a lonely woman who finds pleasure in writing letters. She writes to the local crematorium about the pallbearers smoking in the rhododendrons while a service is being held. She writes to the council about a damaged step and she writes to the Queen about the dog dirt outside Buckingham Palace. With no evidence of self-doubt, Ison's early moments are laugh out loud funny, and she finds Bennett’s rhythm easily.

Irene would be the worst kind of busybody if it weren’t for her concern about the welfare of the young child who lives across the road. With a distant look in her eyes Ison ensures that we see a glimmer of a heart despite her epistolary power games with authority. And the monologue seems all mapped out, but Bennett has no intention of taking you in the obvious direction.

What follows is shocking and perfectly relays the everyday absurdities that Bennett finds so interesting!

Running Time 40 minutes.

Directed by Laurence Marshall

Short interval.. and then it's Theo Theobald - In His Words!

Running Time : 30 minutes

And there's more to come following a short interval..........

After showcasing her solo performance of BUZZING on a pre Covid Saturday afternoon in the Guild Hall, we are delighted to have Debbie Bird back for a full evening slot!

Julie (Debbie Bird) shares her experiences with raw humour and engaging honesty, introducing us to the range of characters who help (or hinder) her transition into an empowered woman living her life and having that elusive fun.

But what does it take for Julie to really become herself? Does she have the inner courage? What is required of any man or woman to live their most authentic life in a world that wants us to settle for ‘fitting in’? Expect tears, truth and revelations aplenty in this warm and witty solo play which made a sparkling Edinburgh Festival debut.

Written & Performed by Debbie Bird

Directed by Mark Farrelly
