Event description

Description

Manhattan in the 1980 is the setting for this KOFMA production of Purcell’s 17th Century opera, itself based on Virgil’s 1st Century BC work. This exciting reinterpretation tells the tale of love, heartbreak, despair and the cruelty of fate within a striking and strong visual culture.

Dido is CEO of Carthage Inc, and Aeneas, her lover, is a travelling executive, no sooner arrived than gone. Dido is supported throughout by her faithful PA, Belinda, but the conspiring and evil office cleaners use their dark powers to twist Dido’s destiny from the happiness of true love, to the despair of abandonment.

At once exhilarating and poignant, the production of this opera will not fail to help us explore the place of tragedy, amusement and inspiration in our own lives.
