The City of London and its Livery Companies are richly endowed with displays of heradlry dating from the 15th century through to modern times. Nowhere in England has such a concentration of corporate heraldry and such a strong traditional of personal arms. The City's arms are the oldest civic arms in the United Kingdom and those of the Drapers' Company are the oldest granted to a corporation. Many Livery Halls proudly display the arms of Past Masters and Guildhall hosts a panoply of Livery Company arms. This presentation and talk will explore an endlessly fascinating subject that is at once both spectacularly ancient and omnipresent in the modern City of London.
Note: The talk will be followed by a cash bar and attendees are welcome to stay on to chat with the speaker and some of the Brothers residing at Chaterhouse.
