Description

Join the Friends of Jesmond Old Cemetery for one of their famous heritage tours of this hidden cultural and historical gem; there are memorials to over 25,000 people contained within its walls – we can’t talk about them all, but you won’t be disappointed by the ones we do show you.

Jesmond Old Cemetery is the final resting place of many of the men and women who helped make the City of Newcastle what it is today – Fenwick, Wilson, Dobson, Hancock, Robb, Pumphrey, to name but a few. As we walk around this beautiful Grade 2* Listed venue, you will hear about the contributions that these retailers, songwriters, architects, natural historians, sportswomen and innovators made to the development, recognition and reputation of our fine City.

In addition, the Friends of Jesmond Old Cemetery, who are celebrating their 11th birthday this year, will share their many successes with you, highlighting how we help care for, maintain and preserve this unique place for us all to enjoy. Come and find out for yourselves why we have such a well-deserved reputation for being friendly, welcoming and informative.

At the beginning of each tour, come and meet us at the South Lodge, which is just inside the Sandyford Road entrance to Jesmond Old Cemetery.
